ABOUT PRODUCT SW205

The SWFA SW205 Modernization Program is the only FAA/CAA approved and supported U.S. Military UH-1H performance upgrade available today. The SWFA SW205 combines commercial 212/412 dynamic components with the reliable Honeywell converted engine, leading to an increase in hover performance in hot conditions. In addition, the SWFA SW205 upgrade increases the maximum gross weight to 11,200 lbs., while lowering direct operating costs. Along with the SWFA SW205 kit installation, SWFA refurbishes the U.S. Military UH-1H basic airframe to original military specifications and standards, provides a complete rewire, updates the avionics and offers a comprehensive selection of mission specific kits and customization. So, whether your mission is troop transport into high altitudes, medical evacuation in hot conditions, SAR, EMS, or transport to and from remote bases, choose the SWFA SW205.

Introduction to the SWFA SW205

The SWFA SW205 is the ideal platform for the customer that needs heavy lift capability at an affordable price. Using the rugged and proven UH-1H airframe, the aircraft is upgraded with modernized components, giving the aircraft new life as a more robust and capable medium utility helicopter. Unsurpassed as a law enforcement utility helicopter, the SWFA SW205 carries up to 12 fully outfitted SWAT team members with two pilots, without the need for external platforms, delivering excellent lift capability with single-engine economics. Emergency response teams also appreciate the exceptional cabin volume and ample power of the SWFA SW205, facilitating a wide range of search and rescue, disaster response, special operations and fire fighting missions.

The SWFA SW205 is a versatile multi-role medium lift aircraft that offers maximum performance at an affordable price. Starting with the venerable UH-1H airframe, the aircraft is upgraded with modern commercial accessories and all components are refurbished or replaced to zero-time condition.

This major upgrade greatly improves performance, decreases direct operating cost and ex-
tends the life of your SWFA SW205. Hover ceiling increases 39 percent on a standard day,

275 percent on a hot day. Payload increases to a maximum internal gross weight of 10,500 lbs. (4,763 kg) and 11,200 lbs. (5,080 kg) external gross weight. Direct operating cost is lowered by nearly 30 percent. Best of all, it’s the only SWFA upgrade designed and backed by SWFA, so conversion is easy and reliability is assured. With over 185,000 flight hours amassed across a fielded fleet of SWFA Series, it’s also proven to be the smart, cost efficient decision for SWFA Huey owners worldwide.

Nothing delivers like a SWFA Huey, and the SWFA SW205 delivers the biggest return for the smallest investment. It’s a SWFA Huey at its best. The SW205 is a upgraded version of the U.S. Army UH-1H. Starting with a refurbished/ remanufactured UH-1H fuselage, SWFA adds dynamic components from the Bell 212/412 (main rotor hub and blades, tail rotor, main and tail rotor support structure, 212/412 transmission, rotating controls, and tail boom) (412 transmission optional), and an FAA certified Honeywell T5317 Series (T53-L-703) engine providing a zero-time FAA certified single engine medium utility helicopter.

SW205 is a single engine, medium utility helicopter designed and manufactured by us. It is a civilian manifestation of the UH-1H helicopter. About 200 of these helicopters are operational worldwide.

The control load testing of the SW205 aircraft was completed in 1995. The maiden flight of the aircraft occurred in 1995 at Southwest Florida Aviation, Inc., located in Punta Gorda, Florida. The helicopter was accredited with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification in July 1995. Its initial operational capability was achieved in 1995.

Introduction to the SWFA SW205 (Con’t)

SW205 design

SW205 is designed to operate in hot weather conditions. The helicopter is designed to  execute military, law enforcement, forestry and fire-fighting missions, even in adverse weather conditions. It can render more payload than the UH-1H thereby significantly reducing the operational cost.

The UH-1N was the base model involved in the construction of the SW205 aircraft’s main and tail rotor blades, hubs and rotating controls. The communication and flight dynamics of the helicopter are built in house, and the assembling work on the first SW205 helicopter was carried out at SWFA Punta Gorda, Florida.

“SW205 is designed to operate in hot weather conditions.”

The aircraft can also execute military missions including National Guard utility, drug interdiction
efforts, Humanitarian/Disaster Relief, and medical evacuation.

The extensive usage of commercial off the shelf (COTS) components allows the helicopter to function at a cost of less than $650 an hour. Most of the upgrades in SW205 are done as part of the SW205 Modernization program similar to the program we performed for the first prototype SW205 (UH-1H).

Features

The helicopter features a airframe fitted with single hydraulic system (dual hydraulic systems optional). It is equipped with a high inertia rotor for secure auto rotation. The aircraft is also equipped with a throttle on collective system, two main rotor blades, severance resistant fuel batteries, additional wire-strike protection and energy attenuating skid gears for smooth landing.

Flight deck

The flight deck of SW205 accommodates two crew members (pilot and co-pilot) for visual flight rule operations using standard avionics configuration.

Optional:
It can be equipped EFIS with three or four displays, which includes synthetic vision primary flight displays (PFD) / synthetic vision multi functional displays (MFD), and two redundant head-up flight management systems (FMS). It can be equipped with an air data computer (ADC), attitude heading reference system (AHRS) and a global positioning system (GPS) or wide area augmentation system (WAAS) receiver are also installed in the aircraft.

Cabin

The large and comfortable cabin of the SW205 can accommodate 12 to 15 passengers. The length and width of the cabin are 3.45m and 2.44m respectively. The height of the cabin is 1.25m.

OPTIONAL:

Sagem/Garmin/Genesys/Aspen/Glance Flight Systems set up a modern electronic flight instrumentation system (EFIS) and advanced avionics in the SW205 helicopter.

“The SW205 can be fitted with a Class-B terrain awareness and warning system.”

The installation was carried out to show compliance and the avionics manufacturer will be providing the supplemental type certification (STC).

The EFIS is an instrument display incorporated into the flight deck.

The system principally displays the aircraft data on PFD/MFD.

The SW205 being fitted with a Class-B terrain awareness and warning system, which alerts the pilot when it reaches high mountains and terrains. It is also equipped with an avionics system encompassing a voice warning system, navigation system, additional digital flight recorders and hover vector display. A separate budgetary ROM can be provided upon request.

Engines

The helicopter is powered by a single Honeywell FAA certified T5317 Series (T53-L-703) turboshaft engine which produces 1,800shp/1,342 kW of output power. The prime contractors involved in manufacturing the engine were Honeywell and Lycoming. The time between overhaul of the engine is 5,000 hours.

Performance

The SW205 can climb at the rate of 3,500 fpm. Its maximum velocity never to exceed speed is 130 kts./241km/h. The range and service ceiling of the aircraft are 283 mi./455 km. and 20,000 ft./6,096 m. respectively. The aircraft weighs around 5,626lbs/2,552kg with a maximum internal take-off weight of 10,500 lbs./4,762 kg. and external takeoff weight of 11,200 lbs./5,080 kg.
